10 Mar 2007 - Fairtrade Bonanza!

It was an extra special coffee morning to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight 2007. As well as the usual drinks and cakes, we gave out free samples of chocolate and geobars which were much appreciated!
Local radio DJ, Andrew Dancey presented prizes to school children who had been successful in the competition to come up with an original pneumonic on the word 'Fairtrade'

In addition, Gordon and Brenda Wilkinson came along with their fantastic selection of Tearcraft crafts and goods. They sold several copies of their popular recipe book - 'Recipes for Disaster.' The couple have travelled extensively in Colombia, Honduras and Thailand and have been inspired by the way Tearfund is transforming lives and communities. They had come up with the idea after two weeks in Honduras, eating mostly rice and beans. This is a recipe book with a difference though - it gives information about the country, its needs and how Tearfund is bringing hope.

Jane Stone brought along Traidcraft food goods, some of which are not yet available to buy in the local shops.

The morning was very well attended and a profit of £65 was made on the tea, coffee and cakes. All the home-made cakes were made with Fairtrade ingredients wherever possible. The money will be used to further our campaigning work in Burgess Hill.
